Stress Relief Series | Recognizing the signs of Emotional Burnout

Stress Relief Series | Recognizing the signs of Emotional Burnout

Emotional Burnout – most people aware of what it means, it’s a popular concept and is often associated with the workplace, but it’s also relevant outside of the workplace and in particular to women. Emotional Burnout is more about feeling mentally, physically and emotionally drained – losing your get-up-and-go for all aspects of your life.

I have recently been working with a lot of women with emotional burnout and have recognized that it’s often the hardest workers who experience it, the feelings of detachment and loss of drive being something new to them. A recent study from the Mental Health Foundation found 74% of people feel stressed, overwhelmed and feel they can’t cope.

Women are more prone to emotional burnout because it’s like the dark side of multitasking – which we wear like a badge of honour – we manage our families, careers and home life, often forgetting to look after ourselves.

5 signs which give you an indication that you are on the brink of Emotional Burnout:

1. Low Energy
2. Lack of Motivation
3. Particularly Short-Tempered
4. Lack of Self-Belief
5. Not Taking Care of Yourself

STRESS RELIEF SERIES | Top Tips for Finding Happiness

STRESS RELIEF SERIES | Top Tips for Finding Happiness

Happiness can generally be described as how satisfied you are with your life and how good you feel on a daily basis. If you’re feeling unhappy or experiencing a period of anxiety  and a loss of contentment, finding happiness can be really difficult, but not impossible (even though it may seem so).

Last week, I talked about my three favourite tips for finding happiness – gratitude – movement – visualization on a live video, don’t worry if you missed it, you can watch it here.

The three techniques for finding happiness which I use most often and which have had the biggest impact on my daily life are:

Gratitude

The term ‘gratitude’ is frequently used in the self-development world and its positive impact on our emotions can often be overlooked.  A grateful attitude can help you to gain perspective, stay in the present and experience positive emotions, helping to break the cycle of negativity in your life and build a stronger relationship with yourself.

Movement

We’re told it all the time – exercise more, aim to reach your step count each day, go to the gym more often – but the reality is that’s sometimes really difficult to do, especially when you’re feeling unhappy or sad, trying to motivate yourself can then become part of a cycle of negativity.

Visualization

Many people aren’t aware of how visualization techniques can help you find the space to let go and clear your mind when you feel anxious or unhappy.  Spending time meditating can help you to focus your thoughtsconnect with your emotions and re-discover your imagination.

For my top tips on incorporating Gratitude, Movement and Visualization into your daily life, watch the video here.

I hope you find the video helpful and I’d love to hear your comments – what techniques do you use? What’s the special thought or memory that always brings a smile to your face?

Stress Relief Series | 4 Reasons to Connect with the Moon

Stress Relief Series | 4 Reasons to Connect with the Moon

Do you have stress & negativity in your life? Would you like to feel joy & happiness again?

Humans, especially women, have had a deep connection to the moon for centuries. Each phase of the moon— new, first quarter, full, and last quarter — occurs, on average, once a month. When we tune in to the different phases of the moon, we can release some of life’s stresses and find our intuitive rhythm, our Divine “sat-nav”.

When we are emotionally following the same moon phases, we find that the more in touch with these phases we are, the more impact they can have on our lives. This can help us create and manifest the life that we desire.

In this video, I explore the ways in which the moons phases can help you, and the reasons you should tap into the celestial empowerment that it gives us.

1st Reason – it helps you to slow down

2nd Reason – helps you to amplify the power of your dreams

3rd Reason – creates specific times for self-care

4th Reason – great for creating self-awareness

Part 5 | Top Five Secret Drains on our Energy

Part 5 | Top Five Secret Drains on our Energy

Welcome to part five of my mini-series ‘Top 5 Secret Drains on our Energy’.

In this video, I’ll discuss the fifth secret drain on our energy– saying yes when we really mean no.

It can be very difficult, especially when you are a naturally caring person or empath, to say no other people of things in your life.

Saying no can make you feel like you’ve let yourself down or let down the other person, but it’s important to remember that when we are sensitive to others emotions it’s easy to get drawn in to their lives and problems, and to allow their feelings to impact our own –  we naturally want to please at the risk of sacrificing our own well-being.

By not putting down boundaries, we will begin to struggle and feel overwhelmed. It’s vital to your own well-being that you recognise that you can care but it’s better not to try and influence and control other people or situations – that’s not your responsibility.

Watch my four-minute video and hear my top tip on how to recognise when you’re ‘caring too much’ and how to accept and acknowledge your limitations.

Part 3 | Top Five Secret Drains on our Energy

Part 3 | Top Five Secret Drains on our Energy

Welcome to part three of my mini-series ‘Top 5 Secret Drains on our Energy’.

In this video, I’ll discuss the third secret drain on our energy– negative self-talk.

How we talk to ourselves inside our minds can have a huge impact on our self-belief, in our ability to have a positive outlookand our confidenceto go out in the world and reach our potential

I’ve had my own experience of negative self-talk and learned ways to manage it and change my patterns of behaviour by meditation, journaling and repeating affirmations. It takes consistent action but it can be done!

Is your own inner-voice your worst critic?

Do you often find you say to yourself  “I’m a terrible person” or “I should be happier than I am?”

Watch my four-minute video and hear my top tip on how to recognise your pattern of negative self-talk and how to change it.

Part 2 | Top Five Secret Drains on our Energy

Part 2 | Top Five Secret Drains on our Energy

Welcome to part two of my mini-series ‘Top 5 Secret Drains on our Energy’.

In this video, I’ll discuss the second secret drain on our energy– when we become over-involved in gossip and criticizing others.  Do you feel uncomfortable or upset when you hear your good friends expressing negative opinions about people, have you thought about how these opinions are impacting on your own energy? Do you often feel you’re constantly complaining and being judgemental of others?

In today’s world where we are constantly bombarded with images and information – Social Media, from groups of friends and on our televisions. It is often difficult to remember our true self and our core values, we form new patterns of negative behaviour without even realizing it, and expressing critical, judgmental opinions about others becomes a habit.

Watch my four-minute video and hear my top tip on how to step-back, reflect and re-group.

Join me next week for Part 3: Top Five Secret Drains on our Energy– when I’ll be focussing on negative self-talk and how it can impact your mood, your attitude and your ability to thrive.
